Medea Benjamin came to speak at the Speak Out at Stratcom rally in Omaha
This year at the annual Speak Out at StratCom rally, Medea Benjamin was invited to be one of the featured speakers. She is one of the founders of Code Pink, a woman's anti-war movement, and also co- founded the non-profit, educational, international organization called Global Exchange. She was the mentor of Marla Ruzicka, who was a young American Human rights activist that died in Iraq() while she was on a Humanitarian Aid and fact finding mission. A short, thin woman who has more strength than 100 boxers, Ms. Benjamin delivered very powerful speeches--one in the morning at the rally at StratCom and one in the early evening at Bemis Park. She spoke about our need to withdraw our forces out of Iraq and give the responsibility of building up Iraq unto the hands of the Iraqi people; how we need to take on a global responsibility, considering every child of the world as through they were our child and every people group as though they were our cousins. There are no evil nations she said, only evil people. She spoke about what true democracy is: people coming out in the masses and demanding change which is what has been happening lately in countries of Latin America like Bolivia and Venezuela. She spoke about code Pink and some of the activities they have done both before the war and after.
She is definitely a woman who stands outside of any label or politically correct way of behaving. She is like a fearless lioness on the prowl, doing all she can to protect her cubs, roaring on the political scene and not backing down from a fight. At the foundation of her activist life, she has the care and compassion for all of suffering humanity and she loves the rewards of happiness and satisfaction she receives at making a positive difference in just one person's life. A mother of two and wife to Kevin Danaher, co founder of Global Exchange, she just finished her latest book, Stop the Next War Now. She is optimistic of the future, realizing it lies in the hands of the people. She herself is not going to sit back while to Bush() administration and its allies rapes us and sucks the world dry. Her energy and life's work is very inspiring to take up a cause and get involved. If we can't beat the beast, at least we can rescue individual lives who are ravaged by it: But we can try to beat the beast and she's taking it by the horns. |
