A recent article posted on the www.indymedia.org newswire (see: http://nyc.indymedia.org/archive/features/2003/01/2003-01.html#6797) reported on the recent killing of a GE striker (she was hit by a police car). Interestingly enough, the article concluded, "GE owns NBC. Do you really think NBC will cover GE?" I decided to find out...
So I went to www.cnn.com and sure enough, right there on the front page was coverage of the strike. And I went to www.abcnews.com -- they had front-page coverage also. Same thing on www.cbsnews.com and on www.foxnews.com.
So it would make sense that the front page of NBC News would have coverage... right??? WRONG -- www.nbcnews.com had no coverage on its front page when I looked. Anyone wanting to see the corporate bias of our news media certainly doesn't need to look any further than this. That it's so blatant (I mean, all the other major news sites I looked at had coverage) was somewhat surprising. |
