Folding paper cranes is an internationally recognized expression of hope for peace and healing. Gallery virtu Cooperative in Monticello is offering area residents the opportunity to participate in this activity through its installation 1,000 Cranes for Peace and Healing.
Nearly 400 paper origami cranes have been created and displayed so far, already creating a supportive environment for viewers to discuss their concerns. However, the gallery is seeking your help to have 1,000 cranes by the end of February.
If you or your organization would like to create cranes or donate colored paper for the installation, please call 217-762-7790.
If you don't know how to create a crane, but would like to learn, stop by the gallery in person. The gallery is located at 220 West Washington Street in Monticello, Illinois. Hours are Thursday 12 to 4, Friday 12 to 8 and Saturday 10 to 6.
