Announcement :: Drugs
They're Jeff And Tracy. They're Good Folks. They Smoke Pot. Current rating: 0
02 Jan 2003
Two years ago or so I spotted a full-page ad in the San Francisco Guardian. It read, "We're Jeff and Tracy. We're your good neighbors. We smoke pot." The ad detailed the difficulties this clean-cut Republican couple had getting their ad printed in liberal weeklies, and all they wanted to say was that lots of folks in the U.S. smoke pot and are also good neighbors and citizens. In other words, it was a call for a repeal on prohibition.

Here is the latest shout-out from Jeff and Tracy...

It is Tuesday morning, December 31st, 2002... New Year's Eve and I am sitting in front of my computer sipping a nice cup of hot coffee. I am thinking about all that has transpired this past year and what possibilities the coming year holds in store. And I am thinking of you. All of you who have written us this past year and a half with your thoughts and feelings, good or bad. I am thankful to each of you for caring enough to take the time to write. Your words have served us in many ways... Most of you have written with words of encouragement and emotional support. Several have asked what they could do to help. Many have sent words of praise and gratitude. Some have written with words of anger, dismay, fear and resentment. All of your thoughts have been valuable to us in our efforts to reach out to Americans with our message. Many of your words have given us pause and helped us reconsider the direction we are taking and what approach might be better or more effective in truly articulating our own desire and intent. Some of you have been confused about both of those things...our desire and intent...so we have continually taken the time to step back and evaluate how effective and clear our communication has been. And that brings me to the purpose of this message... I would like to take a moment to clear up any misunderstandings or miscommunications. Our desire and intent are simply this: to change the law. Period. Now, many people have varied ideas about what it takes to make that happen. We believe the one key factor in all of this is education...changing hearts and minds. When this happens, people will automatically vote their conscience at the ballot box. The government knows this, thus the enormous focus on consistent advertising to influence personal beliefs about drugs. Their advertising campaign is funded by the American taxpayer and the war chest is filled to overflowing. Jeff and I know how expensive an advertising campaign can be...we also know that it is mandatory that there be an opposing voice if hearts and minds are to be influenced. And that opposition must also be consistent in order to get the message across. We have published a handful of full-page ads on the west coast and have touched only a very small segment of the American public. The noise needs to be much, much louder if change is to take place. Newspaper, radio and television advertising is expensive. So we have decided to get creative in our approach to spreading the message that pot smokers are good neighbors and responsible citizens. We are producing an audio magazine/cd with information which will positively impact those who listen. This audio magazine/cd is produced six times per year and can be purchased individually for $20 each or by subscription for $10 per month. Not much of an "investment" when you consider the potential impact. We need your help. Singing to the choir is fine. We need to reach the masses who do not seek out marijuana reform organizations. Each person who believes pot smokers should not be arrested and put in jail or threatened with the loss of employment, children and lifestyle can afford to make a $10 per month commitment to spreading the word. No matter the income bracket. We are making an ongoing personal sacrifice in order to change the law...we ask that you do the same. For most, $10 per month is no sacrifice. Yes, I am asking for your financial support. Your words are wonderful, but unfortunately they do not pay for those ads. And reaching the masses on a consistent basis is key to changing the law. Sooo... what potential does the year 2003 bring? With your help, it could very well bring full page newspaper ads in cities all over the nation, radio and television advertising that opposes the War On Marijuana. What about an ad in The Wall Street Journal? Think about the audience that would reach! And if we are able to spread the message far and wide, what more could 2004 bring? Ballot initiatives to be voted on come election time? With the support of the people enabling them to pass because their minds have been changed on this issue? This is our New Years resolution. To take this message to as many people as possible, and to enlist your help to do so! I am asking you to subscribe today. Share these cds with your friends and loved ones. Make copies and send them to your local newspaper columnists and radio stations. Help us spread the word far and wide in 2003! Let's get a real buzz going around this issue in the mainstream this year and change the law in 2004! We trust that you will do all you can to help us in this endeavor. We look forward to accomplishing great things in 2003! Best Wishes and Warm Regards, ~t -- Tracy Johnson We're Jeff and Tracy.
