police in schools? citizens policing? champaign and urbana citizen tired of abuse from police and teachers frightened by students meet to create the Urbana Police Citizen and School Board Review. |
urbana police are demanding higher education standards and the community is organizing support. two proposals met on the street today and negotiated a merger between the Urbana School District and the Citizen Review Board. "We want police to be well-trained, and as investors in the community, We want to a'rest a'sured that We are getting the most bang for our buck," I infer.
The proposed merger bifurcates education. Lesson 1: many students + one officer = two officers. Lesson 2: police + education = testing. Lesson 1 will be accompanied by an array of visual aids: fully-armed and -costumed officers offering demonstrations in aim, leadership, goal-setting, and appropriate use of force. Lesson 2 is a design for accountability. our tax dollars are paying for increased education among police, and we want to make sure that our investment pays off. you can't have students grading students. if we want to know that our police are up to our standards, they need a someone who is independent and objective, like a teacher, to instantiate a testing process. it is yet to be decided whether the proposed Citizen Review Board will be armed or teethed or neither.
