The SHORTWAVE REPORT 11/15/02 ¡Listen Globally! Current rating: 0
14 Nov 2002
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Germany, Russia, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (November 15) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:07) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 9:30PM/ Sat 9:30AM PM/ Sun 9:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- North Korea is accusing S Korea of military provocation both in the territorial waters and in the DMZ. Protesters against the Russian war on Chechnya followed Putin to a conference in Belguim, continuing their demand that Russia immediately end the war.
From Germany- Protesters in Germany briefly stopped the transport of nuclear waste on a train. After the passage of the UN resolution on Iraq, British Labor MPs have warned Tony Blair that the US must not use it as an excuse for invading Iraq- also Britain is expected to send 15.000 troops to the region in the next few days. A Tel Aviv University think tank has stated that Iraq's military is no challenge to US forces, and that Israel will not be drawn into any invasion.
From Russia- Student protests in Kabul left a disputed number of students dead, as democracy blossoms in Afghanistan. The US is stepping up individual attacks in the so-called War on Terrorism, like the CIA's missle in Yemen last week that killed an American as well as the supposed target.
From Cuba- Peace activists in Europe are planning more rallies across the continent after last weekend's huge peaceful demonstration in Florence Italy. The International Physicians For The Prevention of Nuclear War predict an invasion of Iraq would leave 250,000 mostly civilian Iraqi's dead, not counting long-range damage from the use of depleted uranium weapons. Violence in Venezvuala is escalating, increasing the possibility of an all-out civil war. Two British paratroopers stationed in Kabul may face punishment for the murder of a student attempting to get a woman in labor to a hospital.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
