Peter Camejo's statewide 5.3% of the vote was the highest "third party" percentage for a California Governor contest against Democratic and Republican candidates in 67 years -- since 1934! (In 1978 Libertarian Party Governor candidate Ed Clark received 5.5% of the vote running as an "Independent", without having a party listing on the ballot). In San Francisco, Camejo received 15.9% of the vote, thereby beating the Republican (Bill Simon)! Other counties where Camejo exceeded 10% include: Mendocino, 16.3%; Sonoma, 13.1%; Santa Cruz, 12.3%; Marin, 12.1%; Humboldt, 11.9%; and Alameda, 11.1%. |
