Anti-war activists joined their brothers and sisters from all over the nation and world to show their opposition to war in Iraq. |
On Saturday, October 26th, 50 activists from all over east-central Illinois gathered at Prospect and Marketview in north Champaign to demonstrate against a future war in Iraq. Motorists generally gave thumbs-up, smiles, and waves to the anti-war demonstrators, although shouts of "bomb them all" were occasionally heard. For a couple of hours, motorists waiting to get Best Buy, Lowes, or Wal-Mart, saw that a vibrant anti-war movement exists in Champaign-Urbana. Protesters joined the national and worldwide throng of anti-war activity, as simultaneous protests in Europe, Washington D.C. and San Francisco helped draw attention to the many reasons for opposing a future war in Iraq. Local organizers are planning another demonstration for next Saturday, November 2nd at the corner of Prospect and Marketview in Champaign from 2-4 p.m. |
