Terre Haute Stop War on Iraq had a big turnout for Washington, D.C. solidarity demonstration. |
More than sixty people showed up for a solidarity demonstration with the Washington, D.C. Answer march on Oct. 26. in downtown Terre Haute. None of the local media outlets announced the demonstration prior to the event. However, some people came to the demonstration because they had seen the announcement when they saw coverage of Stop War's demonstration held two weeks earlier and had written the date down. Others heard through word of mouth or saw a poster. Some, but by no means most were on Stop War's e-mail list.
Many were first time demonstrators including a well-known 75 year old civic leader. Several people came from out of town. The majority of cars passing by were supportive of the demonstrators.
The demonstrators had a moment of silence in honor of Paul Wellstone and listened to a short reading about him and peace workers in general. |
