Peace demonstration in Milaukee last Tuesday called for an end to sanctions in Iraq and to killing innocents everywhere.
Tuesday afternoon, downtown Milwaukee

A peace demonstration was staged in front of the federal building. Demonstrators called for an end to sanctions against Iraq that are responsible for the deaths of up to 1.7 million people. One passerby commented, "I hope we kill 1.7 million more!"

Demonstrators say they don’t want their government to support the murder of innocent people anywhere. A few local residents agreed. "We should just leave them alone. We should stop killing innocents," said one man. A worker driving a truck shouted, "Are you Americans?" Another driver yelled, "Get a job!" A demonstrator questioned, "Just because I don't work 9-5 they think I'm jobless?"

A Catholic Worker summed up the demonstration, "I feel it's really unfortunate... The people who are aggressive are really ill-informed about the situation in Iraq...a lot of the people taking flyers are given an opportunity to think... to raise some awareness about the situation there... As far as I can tell... we're bombing usually a couple times a week. We're bombing, we're not letting any food in, and we’re not letting a lot of medical supplies in. And with the oil for food program when we do give them some food it’s usually not enough food. People are still going to bed hungry. So the situation has been that way for the past 10 years and now it looks like we want to have a full fledged attack again and bomb what is ever left. It’s just going to create a lot of anger toward the US from a lot of different facets around the world. From extremist groups… it might cause to attempt more acts of terrorism, which they feel would be justified…It’s just causing a larger cycle of violence to occur. If we’d stop this cycle of violence it would prevent a lot of future violence from occurring in America.”

The demonstration ended peacefully with no arrests.
