Auction was corrupt in concept but to exclude the public that paid, and perhaps sat in jurors chairs or in other parts of the courthouse? The silent auction caught flack from angry taxpayers who screamed. No prices were published. Who got the stuff and the money? |
Something strange happened this past week in Lincoln Square. Champaign County used a commercial public space to hold the most bizarre of acutions---a silent auction of taxpayer paid for remnants from our old courthouse. The public, even though we paid for it, was not invited until the last days. In essence, we were not allowed to bid on our own stuff! And some was rather nice.
The silent auction had only bidder numbers an no prices.
I would like to know where my paid for furniture went, how much was paid for it, where it is now and where it says in the County manual that County employees get first crack at all public paid for things as a benefit!
