Although it has been 10 months since the events of September 11th, there are still detained immigrants being held at various locations, including Middlesex County Jail in North Brunswick, NJ. According to the Message from INS Detainees , written on July 5, 2002, “the net has been cast against people not because of any misbehavior but because of their religion and nationality. These INS detentions discriminate on the basis of religion and race, targeting people from Muslim countries, especially Pakistan, Yemen, Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.”
In response to these human rights injustices, the Coalition for the Human Rights of Immigrants, DRUM, the Prison Moratorium Project, as well as various groups and individuals from New Jersey, have organized a Rally To Support Detained Immigrants for this Saturday, July 13th, 2002.
