The SHORTWAVE REPORT 7/12/02 ¡Listen Globally! Current rating: 0
11 Jul 2002
A 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio (all in English) Two files- Broadcast quality (13.3MB) & Quick download/streaming (3.3MB) With times and freqs for listening at home. Germany, China, Netherlands, Spain, Russia, Cuba. Free to rebroadcast upon notification.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (July 12) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:02) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Deutsche Welle, China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Germany- the U.S. has threatened to pull out of all UN peace-keeping operations if it’s soldiers are not exempt from the International Criminal Court- here’s a report on how negotiations are going.
From China- the US is facing isolation from the world community over it’s stance on UN peace-keeping missions. The President of China is being visited by the King of Nepal. FalunGong followers seized control of satellite TV in China during the World Cup and presented their perspectives of religous oppression in China. Iraq blames the US for the failure of reestablishing the UN weapons-inspection program.
From Netherlands- US Pres Bush stated he will remove Saddam Hussein from power by whatever means, and rumors are out that US troops will use bases in Jordan for a military attack- this story refutes that idea. An Israeli cabinet proposal to sell land only to Jewish Israelis has resulted in widespread condemnation.
From Spain- cannabis laws have been greatly relaxed in Britain, bringing it in line with most European countries.
From Russia- Russia and Jordan have been meeting this week, being in aggreement that settlements with Iraq must through diplomacy only, and the King of Jordan denies making military bases available to the US.
From Cuba- weapons-inspection negotiations with Iraq failed, and Scott Ridder, former UN weapons inspector, says Iraq does not have the weapons they are accused of developing. Jimmy Carter’s visit to Venezvuala to mediate between Pres Chavez and opposition leaders was boycotted by the opposition. Ralph Nader just spent several days in Cuba, saying the US should leave Cuba alone.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!

Shall be to arrive from where we started
