Budget cuts threaten to close the Paris Work Camp of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Not only will the job cuts affect the workers and communities involved, but these camps provide labor for many community projects. The closing of these camps may also result in inmates having fewer opportunities to avoid more confining conditions in regular state prisons while serving their sentences. ML |

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The members of AFSCME Local 2052 will conduct an informational picket at the Paris Work Camp at 3:15 P.M. on Wednesday July 10, 2002. These employees will protest the closing of the Work Camp and ask that their supporters join them at the picket.
The Work Camp provides over 55,000 hours of free man hours each year in community services to the communities surrounding Paris. Once the Work Camp is closed these services will no longer be provided. Rick Deprat, the local union representative said, "If people value the services and the jobs this Work Camp brings to this area they need to call their legislators and the Governor and tell them to stop these cuts.
