Building a People's Hemispheric Agreement |
This is a working paper that is offered as an alternative to the FTAA. I doubt it was discussed in Quebec, since it puts the needs of people before corporations. Any agreement that purports to be in favor of democracy, human rights, and the environment should address the issues raised in this alternative.
The FTAA summit broke up with a vague statement in which the leaders claim to be in favor of these things. However, whatever was agreed on is still secret, so I doubt that the FTAA will offer anything but lip service to important human values that the tens of thousands who protested support. |
