Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (June 7) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked in the last 2 weeks)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- on the situation in Nepal. Deadly fighting continues between government forces and Maoist rebels, and the King dissolved Parliament last month. Whether the constitutional monarchy can remain in power when there is much popular support for the rebels is the question.
From Germany- Recent criticism of Israel’s actions against Palestine has resulted in charges of anti-semitism- even against politicians who just defended the rights of others to criticize Israel. The story is followed by a European press review covering this conflict and Russia’s attempt to mediate between India and Pakistan.
From Spain- fighting continues to spread in Columbia, with all factions trying to maintain their positions. The Bush administration acknowledged for the first time that global warming exists and is caused by human use of fossil fuels- though the US plans to do nothing to change the trend.
From China- the Pentagon is planning to sell air-to-air missles to Kuwait; China and Russia are proposing a ban on weapons in space; Japan has proposed amending its status as a nation free from nuclear weapons; the US plan to test more nuclear weapons is opposed by many including the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; Japan has formally ratified the Kyoto Protocol on Global Warming; June 5th was World Environmental Day with many activities around the globe- did your country celebrate?
From Cuba- a US Air Force Colonel has been relieved of duty for writing a letter to a local newspaper in Monterey CA; environmentalists are shocked that Bush's response to the acknowledgement of global warming is that we’ll have to adapt to the situation rather than try to improve it; it is 10 years after the Rio Summit on the Environment, and nations that celebrated World Environment Day took inventory on how they had improved the situation- did your country celebrate?
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
