The government Sunday retroactively approved Interior Minister Eli Yishai's April 1 freeze on all family reunifications between Israeli Arabs and West Bankers and Gazans, to prevent Palestinians from the territories gaining Israeli citizenship. |
The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) petitioned the High Court of Justice against the decision describing it as racist and discriminatory.
Yishai's plans for legislation would entail a whole new naturalization process, and would include the following conditions: an annual quota for the number of applications for reunification of families, and only one application request per family; a clean criminal record; those rejected can only reapply after five years; immigrating children from a previous marriage are not granted citizenship.
Jews from around the world with absolutely no connection with the country will, of course, continue to receive a warm welcome from the Israeli state and the fundamentalists who want to "ethnically cleanse" the country of Palestinians.
More info from Israeli's and others who don't feel that way see links below.
