The Shortwave Report 5/10/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
09 May 2002
A 30 minute review of international news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.7MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Cuba
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (May 10) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:59) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via
http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 9:30PM/ Sat 9:30AM PM/ Sun 9:30AM PST
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- Zimbabwe’s government is speeding up the takeover of white-owned farmland; the US has accused Cuba, Libya and Syria of trying to acquire weapons of mass-destruction; the United Nations General Assembly has condemned Israel’s attacks and seige of the West Bank; the assassination of a leading right-wing politician in the Netherlands just before an election has sent shockwaves throughout the country and Europe.
From Germany- a report from a conference just held in Germany, called “Media, Conflict, and Terrorism.” Then, an International Criminal Court for dealing with war crimes will begin its work in July, though the United States has just pulled out of the agreement.
From Spain- Spain’s version of the US withdrawal from the International Criminal Court; then a brief report on the fierce fighting in Nepal; Spain has ratified the Kyoto Protocol on climate change; Peru’s president is very unpopular, the Columbian army is trying to retake regions in the rain forest, and a Cuban dissident has been released from jail on sedition charges after 5 years; Cuba is being silent on US charges that it’s developing biological weapons but denying US accusations that it flew planes into Venezvuela on the day of the failed coup.
From Cuba- Venezvuela has denied US UnderSecretary of State Reich’s claims that Cuban planes were in the country; the Palestinian group Hammas says it will continue suicide bombings as long as Israeli occupation continues, and Ariel Sharon publically thanked the US for preventing the UN investigation into war crimes in Jenin; human rights organizations in Guatemala are alarmed about increasing Death Squad activities in the country, including torture and executions.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
