US Rep. Johnson Votes To Subsidize Export of US Jobs Current rating: 0
07 May 2002
Modified: 21 May 2002
Confirming my supposition that Tim Johnson really doesn't give a damn about job losses due to the export of manufacturing to low-wage overseas plants, the News-Gazette confirmed Sunday that he voted against a bill that would've banned subsidies to US corporations who laid off a higher percentage of workers in the US than in their overseas plants.
Confirming my supposition that Tim Johnson really doesn't give a damn about job losses in our district due to the export of manufacturing to low-wage overseas plants, the News-Gazette confirmed Sunday that he voted against a bill that would've banned subsidies to US corporations who laid off a higher percentage of workers in the US than in their overseas plants.

What is worse is that taxpayers will now spend billions more to help continue the corporate attack on US jobs and the incomes of working Americans. For more info on why this vote was so important, follow the link to this earlier story on U-C IMC:

Labor laws must protect american jobs
Current rating: 0
21 May 2002
Free trade does help create jobs, but that must be offset by labor and environmental laws in those countries we trade with that are comparable to our own. We cannot set up our own laws to support export of our jobs.

As Tim Johnson's opponent in the upcoming race, I hope to garner the support of labor and trade unions. I know many of the important issues, and hope to learn more about them from conversations with the members and leaders of our unions.
