The Shortwave Report 4/26/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
25 Apr 2002
A 30 minute review of international news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.7MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Russia, China, Germany, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (April 26) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:50) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 9:30PM/ Sat 9:30AM PM/ Sun 9:30AM PST
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- Nepal has been shut down by a 5 day strike called Maoist guerillas- civilians are heeding the demands and are fearful that Nepal's fate may be the same as Tibet's. There have been large demonstrations in London opposed to the arrival of Henry Kissinger- many want him tried as a war criminal.
From Russia- there is a demand among veterans in Britain for a public inquiry into the Gulf War Syndrome- the relationship to the US/British use of depleted uranium weapons is discussed, and the parallels to the Agent Orange devastation in Vietnam are clear.
From China- a brief review of the anti-Israeli/US demonstrations in the Middle East.
From Germany- a press review from Tuesday night focussing on the shock victory by far right candidate Le Pen in France's primary Presidential election.
From Spain- IRA leader Gerry Adams rejects US House report linking the IRA to an international terrorist organization. Uruguay has broken ties with Cuba over human rights. Mexican Pres Fox is angry over Fidel Castro publically airing a phone conversation, where Fox told Castro to leave a UN conference early so as not to offend Pres Bush.
From Cuba- an opinion piece on the conflict between Castro and Fox. A report on evidence indicating US involvement in the recently failed rt-wing coup against Venezvualan Pres Chavez.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
