Turkey: Lives in Danger - Let's Stop the Conspiracy! Current rating: 0
24 Apr 2002
A conspiracy is being hatched
OZKAN GUZEL was taken into custody
FERHAT ERTURK could be executed, TEKIN TANGUN arrested
Every day, involvement in the democratic struggle in our country becomes more difficult. The price for it is becoming higher. The prices awaiting those who are waging a democratic struggle are to live without freedom, to be arrested or put in custody arbitrarily or to be executed. Two days ago the police added a document to the DGM file. A man who didn't want to give his name made an accusation via the 155 police emergency number, stating that he had participated in a meeting which was organised by TAYAD and that the TAYAD official Tekin Tangun had said during the meeting that the blood of the friends who were lost during the DEATH FAST, won't remain unavenged, that they will surely have to pay the price for this, and that this will be achieved through a SUICIDE ATTACK by the persons Ozkan GUZEL and Ferhat ERTURK. Then he put the phone down. The telephone from which the accusation was made is 589 14 39. This phone is not registered at the Telekom. It is a secret telephone number. On April 4, Ozkan Guzel, who has lost his memory as a result of forced medical intervention and who still receives medical treatment at the TIHV (Human Rights Foundation of Turkey) was arrested and put in Edirne F-type Prison, after his house was raided by the police. The Public Prosecutor of Edirne stated that the decision to suspend the prison sentence of Ozkan Guzel was cancelled and that this followed a letter from the DGM (State Security Court) of Istanbul.
Ferhat Erturk is also one of those who was handicapped during the Death Fast and still receives medical treatment. The police have presented him being as being a self-sacrifice activist. That means it has prepared an excuse to kill him any moment at some street corner or other. Tekin Tangun is chairman of the Marmara branch of TAYAD. The reason that he is pursued and threatened by the police is that he is struggling against violations of rights in the prisons, above all in the F-Type prisons, and violations of rights in our country, in accordance with the main statute of the association. Fadik Adiyaman, who was arrested in Armutlu three months ago, explained that the police made a threat against Tekin Tangun and that she was told that they were going to kill him. Following this she filed a complaint at the Public Prosecutor's office in Fatih.
It is clear that this accusation is a conspiracy. This was also a method used against other people previously. Lawyer Zeki Ruzgar has been charged over computer diskettes, which the police claimed to have found in his office and house but which weren't there. Akin Kilinc's hands were placed on a hand grenade and his fingerprints were put on it while he was under arrest. Where will this grenade be produced?
Now Ozkan Guzel has also been jailed under a false accusation, the way for the murder of Ferhat Erturk has been prepared and a basis for the imprisonment of Tekin Tangun has been created. The public prosecutor of Edirne has cancelled the decision to suspend a prison sentence without examining the degree of truth and correctness in this accusation, as though he were in a rush to put out a fire. This also proves that our fears for Ferhat Erturk and Tekin Tangun are well-founded, and it increases those fears. This is an obvious conspiracy. It is very clearly so. To foil this game lies in our hands. Tekin Tangun and myself as his lawyer will use all legal means.

TEKIN TANGUN, BEHIC ASCI, Lawyer
