25 people arrested for what the major news labled squatting, but those arrested call sharing food. All were charged with Unlawful Entry. |
Twenty Four adults and one juvenile were arrested Saturday evening around Six PM, marking the only arrests of 4/20 actions.
Between Four and Five PM, twenty-five people gathered in a private parking garage to share food that had been brought by a Food Not Bombs group. The Police recieved information about the gathering, and detained all of the individuals for approximately an hour, before arresting.
The Police assured that compliance with questioning would allow them to leave shortly, but upon speaking to the building owner, charges were pressed.
At the time of arrest no one being arrested was told what they were being charged with.
The mass media has been reporting that those arrested were "planning to camp" or "squatting" the garage.
The adults were first driven to DC central booking where they were turned away in favor of a Juvenile center being held for them. They were all kept in the same facility for 6-7 hours.
At the time of the arrest several federal agencies were involved, as well as the bomb squad. All arrested were questioned by the federal authorities.
All of the adults were released by Three AM, and given court dates in early May. There is no information on the status of the one juvenile.
