A workshop entitled “Beyond Nuclear Power” will be
held on Thursday, June 23 at 7 PM at U-C Friends
Meetinghouse, 1904 E. Main, Urbana. The workshop,
presented by Carolyn and Roy Treadway, will focus on
health and safety issues related to nuclear power.
The workshop will also address why nuclear power is
not a sustainable source of energy nor a solution to
global warming. A question-and-answer period will
follow.
Carolyn and Roy Treadway are members of No New Nukes
in Bloomington Normal. They have been active in
efforts to oppose the proposed second nuclear power
plant at Clinton, Illinois. The Treadways have
recently published an article, “Nuclear Energy and the
Care of the Earth” in Quaker Eco-Bulletin. (The
article can be found at the following URL:

The public is invited to attend the workshop. Reading
the above article prior to the workshop may be helpful
to participants.

On 4/21/05, in Illini Disciples Building one of leading UIUC physicist was trying to convince audience that nuclear plants are the best solution for energy problem. It was after the movie -The End of Suburbia. He was telling the obvious crap, and didn't want to listen to any different opinions. In comparison, this workshop seems to be a step in positive direction. Let us hope! |

In that meeting, noted inventor, Wayne Pickette attempted to get Dr. Davis into discussions about Nuclear Waste disposal, it's safety and volume. Dr. Davis skirted the questions and avoided any attempts to bring him back to the thread of discussion of that topic. |
