Protect Illinois Wetlands
Call Rep. Winkel TODAY!
On Thursday, April 4, the Illinois House of Representatives will vote on House Bill 6013 (HB6013), the Illinois Wetlands Protection Act. The bill is essential to safeguarding Illinois' wetlands and the abundant biodiversity that depends on wetlands.
Under a US Supreme Court decision issued last year, known as the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, or SWANCC, decision, the Court severely restricted how wetlands are protected in this country. Their decision rendered about one-third of Illinois' remaining wetlands unprotected.

Representative Winkel (R-103) is a key vote on this issue. Contact him today at 217-782-2507 or mailto:rickwinkel (at) rickwinkel.com and urge him to vote YES on HB6013. |

Yes, please do call. As a local microscopist I can tell you that almost all of our local aquatic biodiversity is abnormal now - there are no protozoa to speak of at Allerton Park, and populations at other area water bodies are generally limited to a few hardy species. Homer lake is hurting pretty badly this spring.
If this situation is being duplicated in the state's actual estuaries, the effects are likely to be drastic in the long run - the stuff I study is at the very bottom of the food chain. So get on the phone, eh? 217-782-2507. |
