Democrats opposed the bill (H Con Res 353) because it "raids the social security trust fund." I have questions: 1) are the graph categories accurate or meaningful? (e.g. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act only allocates about $27 billion for education this year, so where is the rest of the $79 billion for "Education and Job Training" going?) 2) Does this budget represent anybody's national priorities? (cf. www.warresisters.org) |

Don't be silly, Peter. 'Education' refers to television commercials educating young people about how the neighbor they buy their pot from is a terrorist. Superbowl time slots don't come cheap you know! And I'm sure it's in everyone's national interest to spend almost 5 times as much on the military as on education. Who's gonna drop bombs on all those scheming foreign children if we educate everyone? And science?!?! Christ, we've got enough gigantic corporations doing science on their own dime, why should we pay non-corporate scientists?! Onward and upward! Faster! Faster! |

I am glad to see we are only increasing our international affairs spending by 1%. I guess we really DID learn a lesson about opening our eyes to bigger world picture after September 11th. Increasing our law enforcement and courts by 15% will definitely prevent the need for cooperative international relations, global debt relief and aid, increased foreign diplomacy.
I hear those yahoo's on conservative talk radio say that spending money on promoting marriage shows that we are showcasing our priorities. What priorities does this budget showcase? |
