Statement of Solidarity with Latuff and Switzerland IMC |
STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY FROM SAN FRANCISCO INDYMEDIA
04 March 2002
San Francisco IMC exists to facilitate communications and information distribution in support of struggles against oppression, exploitation and state violence -- in our local community and as part of a larger network. We recognize that amongst these struggles is the Palestinian intifada. We recognize the Palestinian right to self-determination and their right to resist the unjust and murderous Israeli occupation.
We stand with the Switzerland IMC as they respond to charges of anti-semitism from Aktion Kinder des Holocaust. We condemn the legal threats which have created a climate of censorship that attacks the core of information freedom.
We stand with Latuff, whose cartoons are a powerful expression of solidarity with the millions of people rising up against capitalism and apartheid everywhere.
From Brazil to Palestine to Switzerland to San Francisco, we recognize that this form of global solidarity is necessary and on the rise within struggles around the world.

Let's See What Reaction This Draws |

It is interesting to see the SF IMC take a specific political position on this issue. This is in contrast to the statement made here that carefully tried to avoid taking a stand on any issue except that of supporting the Swiss IMC.
Will a bunch of people dump on this statement like they did on the neutral one that was so controversial? Hard to say at this point, except the reaction will say much about how comfortable people are with taking specific political stands versus trying to maintain a space that welcomes the opinions of all.
BTW, although I disagree with some of the statements above, specifically about Latuff, you will not see me trashing SF IMC or calling into question their right to hold this opinion as part of the IMC network.
Which, it should be noted, is a far cry from the situation that transpired here. |
UC-IMC Statement is not Neutral |

You really think the UC-IMC statement is *neutral*??? Please. It sits on the fence of the important issue (Palestinian solidarity) while basically begging AKDH to forgive IMC for the transgressions of Latuff. The UC-IMC statement assumes a position of imperial superiority, condemning Latuff and gives props to AKDH, who represent Zionist censorship within context. How can you claim that this is *neutral*?! It is neutral only from the standpoint of a liberal sack of shit. And here I thought UC-IMC was dominated by socialists, but I guess this is of the 'social democrat' flavor. If you think the UC-IMC statement does not take a position besides "support for the swiss imc" you have a lot of fucking thinking to do. |

"Hard to say at this point, except the reaction will say much about how comfortable people are with taking specific political stands versus trying to maintain a space that welcomes the opinions of all."
And yeah indymedia is not about the "opinions of all" ... if that were true, it would be dominated by racists and zionists and fascists. If you are for these people having an equal voice in indymedia, you and I are not working for the same thing. period. |
Pretty much sez it all, don't it. |

'Anarchist' sez: 'And yeah indymedia is not about the "opinions of all" ...'
After a comment like that, there's not much that needs to be said, is there. If you believe that IMC is not about the opinions of _all_, then you're right -- you and I _aren't_ working for the same thing.
I note in passing that the SF-IMC letter, as it is written, claims to speak for the entire SF-IMC: "_We_ believe this, _we_ believe that." And the response has
been, as ML suggested it might, deafening silence.

IMC Switzerland isn t vorbidden. Its not under attack of the State. It was a free solution to go offline. Latuff was one reason for this. IMC is a left site? Primitive Propaganda against Israel, islamic propaganda as well. Its true, nor all who post here are fighting for the same thing. |
