peace activist's son & Mex. Am. youth arrested |
Estimados compaņeros Late Fri. nite, the CPD scooped up my son(Dean,a Nicaraguan-American 18, a Senior at Kennedy HS) while walking with a friend,(Israel a student , Mex. Am, student at Kelly HS) and threw them both in jail, (35th & Lowe, Bridgeport)letting Israel out at 3:30 am Sat. morning, and my son later on an I bond.
They were a couple of blocks from where we live, near McKinley Park Library again, and unofficially accused Dean(I don't know if Israel was charged) of painting something on something.
My son did not call, and they had his head so screwed up, he didn't want to even discuss it, and wasn't even going to tell us, but we knew, because Isreal's # was on the phone , so we called it, since Dean didn't come home, and his poor mother told us.
Dean was pressured into taking supervision from a previous incident even though we were ready to go to trial, and I didn't want him to take it, the school year was starting, but the legal clinic(NU Blumn School of law, Children & Family Justice Ctr.) said it was up to Dean. I feel that they are targeting my son because I'm involved in the peace movement (they started fighting and bombing again Fri. as you well know)
The criminalization of a generation continues.
My case(from being arrested Nov. 9th at the peaceful vigil with the 3 black caskets, Afghanistan, Latin America, & the unmarked one)) goes to trial Mar. 12 at 9am, Harrison & Kedzie at Flourney) (reckless conduct, touching the the handle bars of Sergeant Smith's Bicycle, while stationery on the corner, not moving)) I am still looking for witnesses(because he has trumped up the charges saying that I was touching moving police bicycles, putting them in danger, even if you know who I am from previous demos, the many , many times I've been out there since the 1980's, and never was arrested.
I was once, the 10 yr. anniv. of Father Romero's assas. when we built the shanty towns, and locked arms, and many , many of us from Chicago intentionally got arrested but needless to say, that was not here in Chgo.

Prayer for the Farmworker's Struggle (by Ce`sar Cha`vez, UFW co-founder,
3/31/27- 1993)
Show me the suffering of the most miserable;
So I will know my people's plight.
Free me to pray for others;
for you are present in every person.
Help me to take responsibility for my own life;
So that I can be free at last.
Grant me the courage to serve others;
for in service there is true life.
Give me honesty and patience;
so that I can work with other workers.
Bring forth song and celebration;
So that the spirit will be aliver among us.
Let the spirit flourish and grow;
So that we never tire of the struggle.
Let us remember those who have died for justice;
For they have given us life.
Help us love those who hate us;
So that we can c hange the world.
Amen.
