A 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.7MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Spain, Cuba, Russia, Germany. |
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 22) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:54) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real
Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 9pm PST (usually 7pm) this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and may be streamed via http://www.kzyx.org
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, Radio Havana Cuba, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Deutsche Welle.
From Netherlands- a Columbian Senator is kidnapped after a plane is hijacked- FARC rebels are blamed, but they deny involvement; the Pentagon's new Office of Strategic Influence is an ominous propaganda machine, here analyzed by Rachel Coen of FAIR; the prison hunger strike in Peru has spread to more than 900 inmates including Lori Berenson.
From Spain- Peru's Appeals Court upheld the 20 year sentence on American Lori Berenson, charged with aiding Marxist rebels; G Bush's trip to Asia included a verbal slip that sent panic thru the Japanese stock market- and there were protests of US military actions in both Japan and S Korea.
From Cuba- violent anti-American protests erupted in S Korea in honor of Bush's visit; in the Dec 7 edition of the SWR I aired reports from Germany and Netherlands about a US government employee being responsible for the anthrax attacks in the US- here's an update from Cuba; Venezvuelan Pres Chavez says he will not give in to a minority pressure to resign.
From Russia- the meetings between the US and Russia are thrown a curve- the US now wants to stockpile old nuclear weapons rather than destroy them.
From Germany- German President warns the US to not act unilaterally in the so-called "War On Terrorism"; a report from Man&Environment about G Bush's alternative to the Kyoto Protocol.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. No Guilt!

You will solve the problem of war only when you yourself are the challenge, and not merely a reaction.
