Two new reports highlight the real agenda of the Bush Administration in its push for global hegemony. |
The first is this opinion piece by James Carroll,

which details a massive expansion of military spending that is totally at odds with the current priorities of a war on terrorism. The weapons that will be bought have little application, except in the maintenance of global military superiority in the face of few credible threats by other nation states to the national security of the United States.
The second story is even more disturbing.
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines02/0219-04.htm
While the Bush team has been undermining the prospects of ever putting into force the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and has stated its intention to withdraw from the ABM Treaty, undermining the basis of other arms control treaties that have brought relative stability and reduced the threat of nuclear war, it now proposes to build a whole new generation of nuclear weapons and delivery systems. There simply is NO military justification for this initiative, given the lack of an opponent with the resources and perceived hostilty that seemingly justified the previous Cold War build-up.
