The Shortwave Report 2/15/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
14 Feb 2002
A 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.4MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, China, Russia, Spain, Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 15) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.5MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:31) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real
Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and may be streamed via http://www.kzyx.org
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- 80 protestors are arrested in Scotand near the home of the Trident Nuclear submarine; Pres Chavez of Venezuela deregulates the currency dues to lowered oil prices; a 2 day forum in Istanbul between Euro and Islamic leaders to promote the Middle East peace process and discuss the US "war on terrorism."
From China- Kofi Annan again urges Israel to lift the virtual house arrest of Yassar Arafat; Lebanon condemns Israeli incursions, saying hezzbollah is a movement not a terrorist organization; Bush repeats warnings to Iraq to admit UN Arms Inspectors- Iraq says they are US spies.
From Russia- a commentary on the US blacklisting of Iran, Iraq, and N Korea, also on the expansion of the "war on Terrorism."
From Spain- the US Citizens Commission on Civil Rights says the Bush administration is creating policies that will re-segregate the US; Andean Foreign Ministers want a renewal of Trade benefits to continue their work to reduce cocaine production; jailed Peruvian leftists have begun a hunger strike; the Columbian Att General has called for a referendum on whether or not to continue peace negotiations with rebel forces.
From Cuba- new documents are released about the 1968 massacre of student demonstrators in Mexico City; hundreds of thousands protest the US in Iran; Afghan villagers arrested and beaten by US are speaking out; a BBC correspondent reported to the Pentagon about bombing of civilians only to be ignored; the US EPA is being severly criticized for misleading the public about the air pollution following 9/11.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. No Guilt!
