Socialist Forum will present Ken Loach's film, "Land and Freedom," the
third film in its series, "The History of Labor and Socialism," on
Monday, April 2 at 7 pm in the main lounge,
Allen Hall, 1005 W Gregory on the
University of Illinois campus. |
"Land and Freedom" follows a British political activist (David Hart) as he joins with other international radicals and the Spanish people in their fight against Franco's attack
on Spain's democratically elected Popular Front government in the late 1930's.
A prelude to the struggle against fascism in the Second World War, the Spanish Civil War was also the ultimate political test for international radicals of the thirties generation.
The film will be introduced by Professor Cary Nelson, LAS Jubilee Professor of English and a world-renowned authority on the Spanish Civil War. A discussion will follow the film.
