Gene Stoltzfus, director of Christian Peacemaker Teams, will speak on his recent trip to
Afghanistan at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton on February 17, 6:30 p.m.
From mid December 2001 to mid January 2002, Stoltzfus and another CPT administrator
spent time in Pakistan and Afghanistan listening to the victims of bombing and 23 years of
violence, much of it fed by forces from outside Afghanistan.
"Where have you been for 23 years?" asked one Afghan leader?
Stoltzfus and his colleague have recommended that CPT develop a violence reduction team of
five to work in Afghanistan.
Christian Peacemaker places violence reduction teams in high conflict situations where they
pray with combatants, accompany civilians who are at risk of being caught in the crossfire,
and serve as international observers.
CPT, a program of Brethren, Mennonite and Friends churches, currently has teams in
Hebron (West Bank), Chiapas (Mexico), and Colombia.
Stoltzfus’s presentation is co-sponsored by the Evangelical Covenant Church, Willow Springs
Mennonite Church and Plow Creek Mennonite Church.
