Local Urbana Champaign Activist Patrick Thompson today represented himself against the charge of Home invasion and criminal sexual abuse. This is part of an ongoing investigation that began when both Martel Miller and Patrick Thompson were charged with Evesdropping and faced up to 14 years in prison for video tapping police stops of minority community members. Thompson and Miller were part of the grassroots organization VEYA, http://www.veya.org/
and were trying to bring to light the problems of racial inequality and disparity under the law. The charges were brought against the two when Martel Miller was caught video tapping one stop of an African American Male riding his bike at night without a bike light. Both charges of evesdropping have subsaquently been dropped with the help of many community members and the new States Attorney Julia Reitz.
