On this week's program an organizer for http://www.impactaids.org.uk
a humanitarian organization in Scottland, talks about the difficulty fighting aids in Africa and the need to pressure the G8, WTO or African States to provide better care for those suffering from aids.
Local Urbana Champaign Activist Patrick Thompson today represented himself against the charge of Home invasion and criminal sexual abuse. This is part of an ongoing investigation that began when both Martel Miller and Patrick Thompson were charged with Evesdropping and faced up to 14 years in prison for video tapping police stops of minority community members. Thompson and Miller were part of the grassroots organization VEYA, http://www.veya.org/
and were trying to bring to light the problems of racial inequality and disparity under the law. The charges were brought against the two when Martel Miller was caught video tapping one stop of an African American Male riding his bike at night without a bike light. Both charges of evesdropping have subsaquently been dropped with the help of many community members and the new States Attorney Julia Reitz.
Massive protests in La Paz Bolivia over the nationalization of the country's natural gas resources could lead to the resignation of Bolivian President Carlos Mesa. The protests in the street are in support of the nationalization efforts. This report came to the radio.indymedia.org website from Luiz Gomez in La Paz. According to the report the president is expected to resign within 48 hours. There are estimates of over 100,000 people in the streets as of today at 11:00 am.
