After the first week in the new IMC space, things are starting to come together. |
Visiting UC IMC is easy. The Elm Street IMC entrance is now marked by a nicely painted sign. There is a "Open" sign that should be displayed on its front whenever the IMC is open. It should be hung by the closing staffer on the back of the sign when not in use. Thus, you can see at a glance if the IMC is open.
Parking is available on the southside of the building, accessible via the drive at the east end of the building, where it is marked "Authorized Vehicles Only." As an IMC user, this means you are authorized.
Please note that we will soon be offering rental parking around the building during the hours from 6am to 6pm daily on weekdays at very competitive rates. Please contact the Space group if you are interested.
All our rental parking will be available as free parking after 6pm. There is also free parking in front of the PO building in the circle drive after 5pm, when the meters there are no longer enforced.
If you need to lock up your bike, a secure cable was donated and locked to the railing around the south entrance door to the ground floor. It will allow several bikes to be locked up to it there at a time. There is also limited bike parking available at the north entrance to Lincoln Square.
The outside door on Elm St. will be unlocked when the IMC space is open. Go through it and the inside door immediately in front of you is the IMC entrance. It will be locked, but ring the doorbell on the wall to the left of the door and a staffer will open it up for you.
The copier is now back in operation, located in the hall.
The library shelves have been temporarily set-up in the Meeting Room. It is the best and most inviting room to encourage browsing and reading, but there was concern that the shelves would take up too much space. The books will not be placed back on the shelves until we're certain that the location is agreeable to everyone. Please send your feedback on whether the library should stay in the meeting room where it is now.
The big fridge died in the move. If you have a good, working refrigerator you could donate, please let us know. The little fridge was cleaned up and is now operating satisfactorily in the meeting room, if you need to keep stuff cold. Please do not leave stuff there to "grow" though. It will be cleaned out weekly.
The Production Room will get pegboard on the east, stud wall to take hooks to hang cords, etc on, probably in the next few days. There is a work station in the furniture storage area that might work for a third work station. There are two good, sizable desks already in the room. Once the third is in, then Print, Radio, and Video will all have their own workstations. Please let me know if you need any help getting a place set-up for your gear.
The Studio Room is now cleared out. The 32" TV is on its stand. A DVD player will be hooked up to it in the next few days. This room serves several purposes beyond viewing videos. It serves as another, smaller meeting room. Since it is quiet, it is also a good place for doing live recordings, either audio or video. There are tables and chairs to serve smaller meetings in the room. It can probably accomodate about 16 people comfortably.
The gear from different working groups and projects has been consolidated into specific spots, which should make finding your stuff after the move easier. If there is something you're having difficulty locating, please ask and I may be able to locate it for you.
Seventeen people now have keys to the space. The Space group set a deadline of June 30 to return your key to the old Main St. space for either exchange or a deposit return. After that, unclaimed deposit money from the old keys will be returned to UC IMC's general account. Please contact me if you have any questions about keys.
The phone is now installed, so you can again call the IMC at our usual number, 217-344-8820. Internet will be installed by the end of next week (June 13). So please consider hours you may be available to staff so that the public can make use of the IMC's resources. The IMC also needs a staffing coordinator to help this happen. Please consider volunteering for this very important task that requires a minimal time investment. |

Congratulations, again!
I'm sincerely joyous for your achievement, feel this is a real step in Progress, and wish you the best of luck with your efforts! On my next trip back to CU, visiting the new IMC office is at the top of my list. I might even bring a poster or two!
Rock on ML, and sincere thanks for the ongoing documentation!

Does it mean that all usual arrangements with mortgage payments should be fully changed? How and when? It would be also good to prohibit all landlords (ladies) to charge rents, wouldn't it? This way ucimc would achieve what nobody else ever was able to achieve. |
