Thanks to everyone for all the hard work moving the IMC! |
Thanks to everyone for all the hard work moving the IMC!
Thanks to the Jammin' Cleanin' Crew for getting the new space ready on Friday.
Thanks to everyone who showed up today for the move -- I lost track of the exact number, but it was somewhere around 30 people who helped pack up things, put it in pickups, and vans and my trailer, and moved it all into the new IMC space. In six hours, it was done.
With relatively little organization, IMCistas again showed their support for the long process of finding a permanent home. There is much that needs to be done to get everything the way we want it. Working groups will want to organize work parties as they can over the next few days. I will work with you to get the production room infrastructure set up. Please let me know what you need in the way of assistance.
The Space group will be deciding on internet service, as well as many other aspects of organizing the new space, at its meetings on Wed. at 8pm. We welcome your participation as we move forward to a bigger, better, more secure and useful UC IMC.
All IMC meetings and business will now be conducted at the new IMC. Our mailing address has been changed to:
Urbana-Champaign Indpendent Media Center
P.O. Box 953
Urbana, IL 61803
Our street address is 202 South Broadway, Urbana. However, the main door to the IMC is located on Elm St. We now have a new sign there, courtesy of some so far anonymous artist. In any case, thanks to the person who took the time and effoert to make it easy for people to find us. When the IMC is open, enter the Elm St. door, which will be unlocked. There is a doorbell at the inside door that you can use if you don't have a key.
Our phone number will remain the same, 217-344-8820. The phone will be installed at the new IMC space on Wednesday, June 1.
The hours the IMC will be open depend very much on volunteer staffing. If you would like to volunteer to staff or for the still unfilled staffing coordinator's position, please let the Space group know of your interest.
We need to clear the remaining detritus from the old IMC space on Main St. by Tuesday. Offers to help with this would be especially helpful. There is not much that needs done. Please let me know if you are available to help with this at any time between now and Tuesday.
People who still need to exchange keys to get one for the new IMC can contact me individually. |
