Forwarded message from a newsgroup that people may be interested in. Concerns sustainable living and the like. |
More about my house in Rock Island. I call it Convergence House because of it's overlooking the convergence of the Mississippi and Rock rivers.
There are two rooms available to rent.
The cost is $300.00 per month.
We are looking for two people who are interested in an internship (of a sort). I say "sort of" because this internship will not be without rewards.
Rewards include (but not limited to): having access to a 5 acre biologic farm within bicycling distance (14 miles takes me about an hour and 20 minutes). You will be eating food that you grew yourself and participating in a project which should eventually net a small income derived from selling produce at various local farmers markets etc.
There is also a small yet concentrated garden space at the house as well. We compost and recycle. We use a clothes line instead of the dryer. We are gradually turning this house into the Quad City Center for Sustainable Living. I also have a music studio that would be available to house members. Current musical project is something I call Autosaurus Wrecks.
People interested in joining with us on this project should be interested in walking the talk. By that I mean (for instance) using mass transit rather than owning a car and walking and bicycling on days when that is possible. This may not be for everyone but if you are interested in living sustainably in an urban setting we are well on our way to a low impact household.
It has been my intention to work at meaningful labor while remaining loyal to my "harm none" philosophy for about twenty hours a week. While contributing another twenty hours to other important community projects and activism. This way we work part time to pay the bills and keep the house and the rest helping make the Quad Cities and the world a more sustainable, peaceful, and healthful place.
Additionally, I intend that this house (or at least the equity in it) will eventually be donated to a community land project aimed at creating a school for sustainable living. Anyone interested in this project will be helping to create a program which ultimately will be aimed at not only helping those that would not normally be able to own land obtain property, but also help them to become good stewards of that land and in turn help the Quad Cities become a more sustainable community.
If anyone is interested in this offer please email me at dave (at) oneskygate.net or give me a call at 563-570-8343
Peace now
