On December 20, the Rainforest Action Network in conjunction with the Student Environmental Center of Carbondale, Illinois paid a visit to the Boise-Cascade offices in Itasca, Illinois to spread some holiday cheer and ecological consciousness as a part of their Tree Free Campus Campaign and general initiative to put an end to the ecocidal practices of industry dinosaur Boise-Cascade.

The festivities, taking place on the day before Solstice, began with carolers marching with voices raised in song from a nearby parking lot to the street in front of the Boise-Cascade building. As they reached their destination, they were greeted not only by other carolers, but also by several representatives of Boise-Cascade itself. Truly, the people at B.C. were inspired by the holiday spirit - either that, or they wanted to greet the carolers on front lawn rather than allowing them into the building.

Carolers greeted representatives of Boise-Cascade with a chorus of such classic tunes as The 12 Days of Christmas [Boise-Cascade style], Chris Millikin the CEO [Frosty the Snowman], There's Boise-Cascade [Here Comes Santa Claus], and even Smash the State and Squat Their Buildings [Deck the Halls].

As the caroling reached its finest heights of semi-melodic fervor, Santa Claus delivered over a thousand letters from children asking Boise-Cascade for the holiday gift that lasts a lifetime - a healthy planet that is not sickened by the ecocidal practices of a paper and logging company gone mad.

At the end of the day, representatives from RAN and SEC - including Santa Claus - visited Illinois purchasing offices in downtown Chicago to call for an end to Boise-Cascade's presence in the state. Sadly, there was no representative available to speak with Santa, but their office was very forthcoming with contact information for future discussion of the issue.

Has Boise-Cascade been naughty or nice this year? I think that we all know the answer to that question. Will all of us continue to allow their ecocidal behavior, or will the destructive practices of this industry dinosaur at last be laid to rest in Illinois and all the world over? Only time will tell if such a holiday miracle can come to pass.
