U.S. District Judge William Yohn threw out Abu Jamal's death sentence Dec. 18, ruling that he is entitled to a new sentencing hearing. Yohn ordered the state to conduct the new hearing within 180 days. If a new hearing is not held, Abu-Jamal will automatically be resentenced to life imprisonment. The judge refused Abu-Jamal's request for a new trial in his 272 page ruling. |
