A look at the psychology of fanaticism. |
buenos diaz !
Thursday on WBEZ Radio Chicago.
the Worldviewshow discusses women in Saudi Arabia. FM 91.5
between 1-2pm.
with archives on the web for those not in Chicago.
which fits into my meditation on fanaticism.
I think it is the root cause of much of what has happened lately.
the Ottoman empire spread an open dynamic Islam through out
the world. But small sects developed different types of Islam which had ties to
political power like in Saudi Arabia. they were a distinct minority
but because they had oil money - fanatics could
export their narrow strict view to others. but even saudi arabia
which doesn't allow women to vote or drive or leave the house without
relatives allowed women to go to school. I look forward to hearing more
from the womenthere. Now I think like in Iran women in Saudi
Arabia are stepping forward to create their own changes.
right on right on
but I think we have our own fanatics here too: people like Jerry
Falwell and Rush Limbaugh preach hate and intolerance
of culture to further their political views.
What these fanatics have in common is both want a strict
society that obeys authority and doesn't think to much.
and people like Timothy McVeigh and Clayton Waagner act on
intolerant views.
fanaticism masked as religious intolerance,
seems like a poltical tool.
so you don't feel hopeless in difficult times its more important
ever to think read discuss and act. (and dance) |
