A narrative & iconographic analysis of patterns in N-16/N-17, based on a sequence of photographs I took on both days. |
Anti-IMF/World Bank protests in Ottawa preceded by 11 days the Liberal government's use of closure to shut down parliamentary debate on new "anti-terror" legislation in Canada. This legislation, Bill C-36, allows preventive detention without charge of those suspected of planning "terrorist" offenses. On N-17, I got a chance to see, before the legislation was even passed, how it might work.
Like many of the pieces that I do for the net, this one has evolved even as it was already on the website, & as I noticed subtleties in the images that I had overlooked in the initial draft. (This being one of the interesting aspects of web-based as distinct from paper-based publishing.) I think it’s now reached its point of dynamic equilibrium.
Because of the number of images, you may need to press "refresh" to get them all to load.
Please note that this is an independent, non-profit, non-commercial site that I run at my own expense. Given this, I do not mind redistribution of this story on the same basis, i.e. non-profit, non-commercial. The goodwill does not extend, however, to corporate media & commercial ripoffs.
