The International Children's Day of Broadcasting
WEFT 90.1 FM Community Radio

"Every December thousands of children around the globe celebrate a special day, the International Children's Day of Broadcasting. Children take to the air as reporters, presenters and producers of programs that express
their own dreams and concerns.... The key to the yearly event is participation by children and adolescents...." (from the UNICEF web page at http://www.unicef.org).
WEFT Radio is celebrating the International Children's Day of Broadcasting with many locally-produced radio programs by and for children and teenagers.
We hope to make this an annual event. Anyone interested in becoming involved in next year's program should contact the Coordinator, Cherie Lyn, at Treehouse Radio, (217) 352-1240.
Here is the schedule for the International Children's Day of Radio, on WEFT 90.1 FM, Sunday, December 9th:
(programs from 1:30 - 4:00pm are especially for younger children)

Radio Girl
Topic: GirlZone
Talk show and interview hosted by Sehvilla Mann and Sarah Carsey, teens
who regularly produce Radio Girl for WEFT.

All Girlz Radio
Topic: Personal Responsibility
Talk show and music, by and for African American teen girls.
(This show also airs regularly on WBCP.)

Urban League of Champ. Co.
Talk show and musical talent by Middle School and H.S. students from the
Urban League.
Topic: People who think they have talent. But do they?!

Student Productions at University Laboratory H.S.
Student writers/directors will talk about plays they wrote and how they
are directing them for performance.

of children from the East Central Illinois Refugee Association. Topics
will include music, teen pregnancies, Britney Spears, facts from around
the world, and comparisons between life where they were born and life in
the U.S.

This program will give information on how children and teenagers in East
Central Illinois can get involved in local radio shows.
