Volunteer Opportunities at the Urbana-Champaign IMC |

This is a listing of volunteer opportunities waiting for lucky volunteers wanting to get involved with Independent Media. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate! |
Looking to get involved in Indymedia? These are some areas and volunteer jobs where the IMC needs the most help.
The Urbana IMC is one of the largest and most active IMCs anywhere so there are lots of different ways to get involved.
Contact information for each volunteer job is included with each listing.
News working group

IMC NEWSHOUR: The IMC News Group can use help producing the IMC's hourly Newshour, heard weekly on WEFT 90.1 FM, Mondays at 5:00 PM. Anyone can get involved, no radio experience is necessary. Come to the newsgroup's weekly meeting, Sundays at 1:15pm at the IMC, or join the newsgroup e-mail list at http://lists.cu.groogroo.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/imc-newsroom
Finance working group

GRANT WRITING: The Urbana IMC is actively pursuing grants to help fund its activities,
and already has grantmakers inquiring about the IMC. The finance group needs a few volunteers willing to
help write grants. Experience with grant writing helps, but mostly a willingness to learn and follow
through is important.

Print working group

The Print group publishes the U-C IMC's monthly alternative newspaper the public i (http://publici.ucimc.org). The Print group needs help in the following areas:
DISTRIBUTION: Need volunteers to help coordinate and distribute free copies of the public i all over Champaign-Urbana. Contact Michael Feltes at mfeltes (at) gmx.net, join the print e-mail list (http://lists.cu.groogroo.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/imc-print) or attend the next public i meeting 3:00 PM Sundays at the IMC.
WRITING: The public i is always looking for interesting and informative articles in a variety of topic areas. If you're interested in writing, post a story or story idea to the print group website (http://print.ucimc.org, join the print e-mail list (http://lists.cu.groogroo.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/imc-print) or attend the next public i meeting 3:00 PM Sundays at the IMC.
WEB DESIGN: Looking for a volunteer to post each month's edition of the public i to the web. Should have good working knowledge of HTML. Contact Ellen Knutson at eknutson (at) uiuc.edu.
Outreach working group

OPEN MIC/CABARET NIGHT: The Outreach group is looking to host open mic and theater nights at the IMC and needs volunteers to commit to running this as a regular event. Need volunteers to help do coffee and snack sales, coordination and other duties.
