THIS Saturday, April 16th
1-3pm
Illinois Disciples Foundation
The Illinois Disciples Foundation (IDF) and the Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative (PRC) are jointly organizing “Veterans Speak Out: An Anti-War Speakers Panel” on Saturday, April 16th. The event will begin at 1pm in Wisegarver Lounge, on the first floor of the IDF. The all-veteran speakers panel includes Bill Davis, Meg Miner, Ray Parrish, and Leah Byron (tentatively). The event is free and open to the public.

Hear the experiences of vets and learn about the issues that face GIs and vets of the war in Iraq. Following a speech by each panelist, there will be time reserved for a discussion and questions.

Bill Davis is a national coordinator of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), an organization dedicated to fighting for peace, justice, and the rights of all veterans. He is also a Vietnam vet and the president of Auto Mechanics Local 701. Meg Miner is a retired U.S. Air Force vet and a librarian in central Illinois. Ray Parrish is a Vietnam-era vet and the military counselor for VVAW’s Military Counseling Service, based in Chicago. Leah Byron is tentatively scheduled to speak and is an Iraq War vet. For more information about VVAW, please check out their website at www.vvaw.org.

The Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative (PRC) a multi-issue multi-tactical activist organization. The PRC is also a registered student organization at UIUC and a program of the Illinois Disciples Foundation, a pioneering peace with justice campus ministry. The IDF is celebrating its 100th anniversary this April! The PRC has been involved in both the anti-Gulf War and the anti-Afghanistan/Iraq wars. The IDF has a long history of anti-war organizing, since the Vietnam War.

This event is being co-sponsored by: 85% Coalition, Activist Forum, Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort, El Centro por los Trabajadores, School for Designing a Society, Socialist Forum, St. Jude Catholic Worker House, St. Patrick’s Social Action Committee, UC Friends Meeting, UIUC NORML/SSDP, and Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 16th at 1pm in Wisegarver Lounge at the IDF. Wisegarver Lounge is located on the 1st floor and is wheelchair accessible. The IDF is located at the NW corner of Springfield and Wright St. in Champaign.
