We gather this November in two different locations to stand up against two different parts of one great system of evil.
We gather to say "NO" to the system of corporate, economic, and military domination that seeks to overtake our world. |
We gather this November to say "NO" to the IMF/WB and to the School of the Americas.
As SOA Watch gathers at Ft. Benning, home to the SOA, our hearts and spirits are united not only with those of our brothers and sisters in Latin America, but also with those of our brothers and sisters who are raising their voices in Ottawa.
Today we remember those who have suffered due to the sinister partnership of the IMF/WB and their military enforcer, the SOA.
We remember the hundreds of men, women, and children killed at the Rio Negro massacre in Guatemala by soldiers under the direction of SOA graduate Hector Gramajo when they refused to be displaced from their lands so that the World Bank could finance a hydroelectric dam.
We remember the people of Cochabamba, Bolivia, who were attacked with live ammunition by soldiers under the direction of SOA graduate Hugo Banzer when they took to the streets to protest the privitization of their water supply.
We remember the people of Colombia, who have been displaced and massacred by graduates of the SOA in order to pave the way for free trade, corporate oil drilling, and multiple projects financed by the World Bank and IMF.
We remember these and so many others.
The IMF/World Bank and SOA are working hand in hand to militarily silence the voices of those who seek civil liberties and basic human rights and to profit richly from the violence of forced poverty. This system of violence and evil must be stopped!
Those in Ottawa and those in Georgia are united in the same struggle. Today we stand in solidarity with you as we raise our collective voice and take to the streets to demand a world that is free of military domination and economic violence. A world where the power of the people prevails. A world where all live free from terror. Today we stand as one in the name of justice. |
