The St. Louis police department is harrassing homeless people, removing them for the Final Four. College basketball exploits the slave labor of unpaid athletes. |
The newswire on stlimc has been down, so I'm posting this at the next most relevant IMC site.
Boycott the Final Four! Boycott St. Louis!
In preparation for the Final Four held in St. Louis this year, police are harrassing and removing homeless people from downtown. The police do this at every big event in STL, most recently for the World Series last October.
Even if the local homeless weren't exploited, we should all still boycott the Final Four and college sports in general. The colleges and corporations make many billions of dollars exploiting the slave labor of the athetes. Laws prevent college football players and men's college basketball players from working anywhere while on the teams.
Most likely NO money spent at the Final Four in St. Louis will trickle down to poor people or minorities. It'll all go to the rich white corrupt folk.
If any Illini students come to St. Louis for a purpose other than protesting _against_ the Final Four (or protesting against war or any other issue worth protesting), they deserve to be mugged.
I for one will make visitors feel unwelcome.
On a positive note, visitors to STL for the Final Four will probably have a terrible time in STL, and they'll tell everyone back home how terrible it is in STL, and the media will write bad articles about STL, so this should help reduce the amount of gentrification caused by outsiders moving in. |

Just once, I'd like to protest those who protest. What fun. |

"College basketball exploits the slave labor of unpaid atheletes."
Slave labor?
Unpaid?
Which college basketball team are you talking about? One where no one has scholarships or gets special treatment from their institution because they're on the baskteball team? I don't think there's such a team in the final four. |

Slave labor?
You mean the guys who are getting national media attention, public adulation, college scholarships, free training for the NBA, medical attention, expert conditioning, food, transportation, academic support, orange tooth guards, and a closet full of jerseys, T-shirts, sweat pants, and headbands? I don't hear them complaining.
