UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS: DIVEST FROM ISRAEL NOW!
NO MORE COLONIZATION! NO MORE APARTHEID!
PALESTINE WILL BE FREE!
Public gathering/rally:
Date: Wednesday, November 14th, 2001
Time: Noon--Sharp
Place:Quad--Just outside the Union
Urbana-Champaign Unity and Struggle has sent a report to the University of
Illinois Board of Trustees asking the university to divest from corporations
conducting business in Israel. Four of the targeted corporations are weapons
manufacturers: including Raytheon, United Technologies, Lockheed Martin
and Boeing. Numerous American universities like the U of I invest millions of
dollars in companies supporting the Israeli apartheid/colonial economy and
those supplying weaponry used by the Israeli state to murder and oppress
Palestinians.
We call upon your support for a campaign of divestment. The situation we face
is much like that of the 1970s and 1980s when divestment campaigns against the
Apartheid regime in South Africa swept the United States. We join UC
Berkeley and city councils, like Ann Arbor, in a practical step
toward building a mass movement for Palestinian solidarity in the United
States. We hope to be joined soon by other campuses and city councils.
We take note of the growing boycott in England of Israeli products. We
have received word that many Palestinian Intifada fighters
happily welcome such developments in the United States, the imperial hand
in the Middle East, and we have read with interest the support of Left and
progressive Jewish Israelis for such a campaign.
No to 53 years of stolen property, pass laws, Jewish only beaches, house
demolitions, colonization, assassinations, occupation, and refugees.
One land, two peoples. For a free Palestine/Israel.
