We have now, Saturday 10.11.01 12:00 occupied the ferry "Sjaeland" at Langebro in Copenhagen. We are aktivists from organisation Globale rodder - Globalisering nedefra. We demand, that the government puts "Sjaeland" or another means of transportation in service for WTO-critics so that we can come to Quatar to protest against WTOs new round on trade.
Because of growing resitance against corporate-led globalization, WTO have in their current meeting moved to an isolated desert-dictatorship, where any demonstration is forbidden.
But WTO will not be allowed to flee and hide. It is our democratic right that also the resitance against WTO be in place during WTO-meetings.
WTOs aim is to remove everything in the way of corporations "free" trade, and mantain the companys right to behave as they wish. WTOs rules for trade sets profit before people and environment and are partly responsible for the increasing gap between rich and poor of the world.
At the meeting in Quatar WTO will be strenghtened and get mandate on new areas, and thereby further increase the members possibilities to conduct a socially responsible policy.
Everywhere in the world from Calcutta to Helsinki in these days demonstrations, civil desobedience and counter-meetings are being held against WTO. Because of this we want to go to Quatar to act against the strenghtening of WTO and instead work for a just and sustainable trade system.
Pressmeeting at 14:00 i Folkets Hus, Stengade 50, Norrebro. First we want to tell about the background of our action and our oopinion on WTO. Thereafter we tell about our organisation, our politics our forms of action and our plans for activities during Denmarks EU-precidency in coming year 2002.

Globale rodder will through non-violent actions and activities resist globalization from above and work for globalization from below. The white overalls that activists wear were first used in Italy and symbolizes a non-violent, but direct civil massdesobedience. |
