The Shortwave Report 11/9/01 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
09 Nov 2001
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast (13.8MB) and quick/streaming (3.4MB). Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Netherlands, Germany, Russia, China.
The latest Shortwave Report (November 9) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.8MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:59) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file, it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Russia, and China Radio International.
From Netherlands- Daniel Ortega loses the Presidential election in Nicaragua; 10 former military officers file criminal complaints against Pinochet; Pakistan renews its call for a pause in the bombing; the president of Somalia denies that bin Laden has bases in his country; at the UN Climate Change conference in Morocco evidence of worsening conditions is presented.
From Germany- a report on the rapidly diminishing ancient forests and blockades of wood from Congo arriving in Germany; a press review from Wednesday on Germany's decision to deploy troops to the war.
From Russia- a commentary questioning the duration of the bombing as well as the switch from "precision" bombing to carpet bombing.
From China- Russian troops assasinate the commander of Islamic troops in Chechnya; China wants to strengthen and improve the Anti-Ballistic Missle Treaty; Wal-Mart plans to open 8 more stores in China; China expressed sympathy to Cuba about the hurricane and is giving relief.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated.

¡FurthuR! Dan Roberts

"Common people only appear [on the news] for a moment-- when they kill
someone, or when they die. This can't go on.... By not having to answer to
the monster media monopolies, the independent media have a lifework, a
political project and purpose: to let the truth be known. This is more and
more important in the globalization process. This truth becomes a knot of
resistance against the lie."
--Subcommandante Marcos, 1997--
