The Shortwave Report 11/2/01 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
01 Nov 2001
A 30 minute weekly review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files-broadcast quality 13.7MB/ quickdownload & streaming 3.4MB.Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Times and freqs for listening at home. Netherlands, Cuba, Russia, China, Spain, Germany.
The latest Shortwave Report (November 2) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.8MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:54) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file, it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Deutsche Welle.
From Netherlands- a report on the state of the war from Monday night by an independent military analyst; the French Parliament passed an anti-terrorism bill similar to the one passed last week in the US.
From Cuba- a report on the hospital bombed in Kandahar and the self-censorship of CNN; Cuban-American terrorist Orlando Borsch, living in Florida, continues to justify the bomb explosion of a Cuban airliner in the 1970s.
From Russia- a commentary on the news that the CIA has obtained the right to carry out political assasinations.
From China- Kofy Annan says ending the bombing would allow relief workers to do their work; a US bomb makes a mushroom cloud 300 meters high; Saddam Hussein accuses Western governments of injustices, and demands that the US rid itself of weapons of mass destruction.
From Spain- the US government is trying hard to prevent Daniel Ortega from returning to the presidency on Sunday in Nicaragua; Peru's ex-pres Fujimori is facing further charges of embezellment, along with human rights violations; Argentina continues to perch on the brink of bankruptcy.
From Germany- Rigoberto Menchu lends support to the Chilean lawsuit against Henry Kissinger for human rights abuses; a report from Man & Environment on the UN Conference on Climate Change being held in Morrocco, despite the US absence.
All this plus times and frequencies for listening to shortwave at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated.
