On 10.25, sixteen Connecticut citizens were arrested in Hartford, CT, durring an unpermitted march from Bushnell Park to Sen. Joseph Leiberman's downtown office.
The intent of the march was to spread the coalition's vision of a peaceful solution to the U.S. Government's war on Afghanistan.
Charges range from 'disorderly conduct' to 'inciting a riot', which is a federal offence. Bonds have been set as high as $50,000 for some of the detainees. I am not certain who is defending them, though I do know they are being charged individually, and one lawyer from a New Haven firm as offered to take the cases of all 16 for $15,000.
Also, as of about 5:30pm 10.26, a percentage of bond money, large enough to spring all the protestors, has been raised and all still in detention are being processed out of holdings as I type this.
A Fund is set up to help raise the monies to free our friends and help out with legal costs. Right now it looks like we have to raise about $20,000 (though, if we find free legal defence that price would come down to about $5500).
